Aktis Korea opens Island Castle Water Resort

29th June 2018

Island Castle, an urban complex resort located in Jangdam-dong, Uijeongbu City, officially launched on 29th June, 2018. After 8 years of preparation, the hotel and waterpark will finally open for business from the 30th June 2018. A condominium adjacent to the resort is also planned to launch in November upon completion of renovation.

It is projected that Island Castle will attract 1 million visitors annually and further, bolster the local economy, notably through creation of more than 1,000 jobs.

The opening ceremony hosted numerous representatives including Danny Yee (CEO of Aktis Group), executives such as Hong Suk-Pyo (Best Western), and government officials including Mayor Ahn Byung-Yong.

"Island Castle is only the beginning of Korean investments to be made by Aktis Group, which holds a global hotel chain. The next step is currently being planned,” said Yee, indicating pursuit of further investments in Korea.

"This embodies the 8.3.5 project, which stands for 8 million tourists, creation of 30,000 jobs and 5 trillion won worth of economic stimulus effect. I contend that this outcome will bring synergy to subsequent projects such as cultural complexes and theme parks.” added Mayor Ahn.

Hong also stated, "The resort will be marketed as a hot-spring resort that brings joy to all 3 generations of a family. It will further contribute to the growth of tourism in Northern Gyeonggi Province."

The adult entrance fee at Island Castle is KRW 40,000 for weekdays and KRW 50,000 for weekends, while the infant entrance fee is KRW 34,000 for weekends and KRW 40,000 for weekends. During peak season (July 21st to August 19th), the prices will be temporarily increased to KRW 65,000 for adults and KRW 55,000 for children regardless of the day selected. There will be a 30% discount for residents of Uijeongbu, Yangju and Dongducheo; 35-40% discounts for online purchases; 50% discount for soldiers, police officers and the disabled.

Island Castle, initially completed in November 2009, is an urban complex with a total area of 122,000m2 including 531 condominium rooms, 101 hotel rooms as well as a waterpark. Lotte E&C had claimed a lien and delayed any action on this property for the past 7 years, due to unsuccessful attempt at financing the project valued at KRW 125 billion. Aktis, a Hong Kong based Real Estate Investment Corporation, thus acquired and pursued the project as of June 2016.
